I believe that words are super important. How we phrase things helps to create our reality and I really like to know theI wrote about this a while back, for a strategic planning tool that I created. Recently, the word ‘goal’ has been popping up all over the place, so I wanted to revisit this idea.
I used to call it “goal planning”. As I was writing the course, it felt… off. I looked up the origin of the word “goal” and I found this:
1275-1325; Middle English gol boundary, limit; compare Old English gǣlan to hinder, impede
Hinder? Impede? Not what I was looking to do, at all. Deciding to use a different word, I went with “intention”:
1175-1225; Middle English < Late Latin intentus an aim, purpose, Latin: a stretchingout ( inten (dere) to intend + -tus suffix of v. action); replacing Middle English entent(e) < Old French < Late Latin, as above
Much better…
For me, setting my intentions is a powerful way to create a metaphorical map, guiding myself toward how I live my life, what I will do on a daily, even hourly basis to make sure that I’m able to live the life that I want to live; a life that is in service to creating the best possible environment for myself, and for those around me – whether they’re family, friends, partners, clients. I think it’s safe to say that if you’re here, reading this, you’re committed to serving the greater good in all aspects of your life. I don’t believe in coincidences.
I encourage you to dig deep and not only set those intentions and make them happen, but to make sure you’re setting the intentions that align completely with your philosophies, desires, and innermost, soul-centered wishes for your whole existence. If you need help with that, fill out the form below.
We don’t want a life filled with things that you think you should do, we want a life filled with the things that we just can’t live without. Recently, I’ve decided that whenever I’m presented with an opportunity to be something, do something, or have something, I will go within and ask myself, “does this idea light me up? Do I want to scream, ‘Fuck, yeah!’?” If the answer is no, I’m not going to do it. Leaving room in my life for the things that light me up is imperative and if I say yes to the things that don’t, it won’t create the juicy, beautiful life that I believe I deserve and will have. I want you to feel that too.
Feeling stuck? Let’s talk about it!
