Who Am I to Dare This?

Self Care

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the vision that I have about why I’m on this planet. It seems so big. So important. So… mighty. Often however, a little voice shows up and says, “Who Am I to Dare This? Why do I think that I have the ability to do this? What makes me so powerful or important? Just who the hell do I think I am, anyway?”

Does that sound familiar to you?

I know so many women who know they’re on this Earth to do something super important, to change the world, yet hesitate to make too much noise, be too visible, shine too bright.  It could come from any number of places; society’s standards about what women should and shouldn’t be doing, a parent or caregiver’s voice from long ago, or an internalized fear that you’re going to make someone else feel bad by shining more brightly than they do.

As I expanded my services to include mentoring and coaching I heard this all too often.  Of course I’m not immune to it either, as I stated above – but we have to come up with ways to get past that voice and fully step into our own glorious destiny.  Here are a few idea to try the next time the “How dare you”s show up.

  • Affirmations: Affirmations are very powerful.  Thoughts, become things and stating something out loud is even more so.  Choose your words carefully, so that they really resonate for you. You might try: “I am a powerful being, on this planet right now to change the world for the good of all.” Here’s a little gift for you. 25 Powerful Affirmations For Magical Women. (PDF File)
  • Meditation: Here’s a quick guided affirmation meditation or just Google “affirmation meditations“.  I find meditation really helpful to get me back on track.
  • Crystals: For confidence, courage, and creativity I love to use Golden Apatite, Citrine, or Fluorite.  Keep a piece near you, in your pocket, on your desk, or best of all, wear it around your neck.  I have a little wire cage that I put on a chain and slip whatever stone I’m working with into it, so that I have it with me all the time.
  • Loud, motivating music – something to really get you going.  Here’s a playlist of some my favorites (Spotify web player).  Save the link, I plan on adding more now and then.

I hope this short list helps you to work through those blocks that try to tell you that you’re not worthy of this big, beautiful plan – or that somehow you’re not qualified, because you absolutely are.  There is no one more qualified to bring your gifts to this planet, than you are. I promise.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
