Should you have a blog for your business? And Seriously, how are you supposed to come up with blog post ideas, over and over again?
Short answer? Yep and keep reading.
Real answer? Only if you’re going to add relevant, great content on a regular basis. I know that can sound daunting, but it’s not. There’s so much to write about and even though you shouldn’t stray too far off course, a little meandering never hurt anyone. In fact it gives people a glimpse into who you are, what you’re about and gives people an idea about what it’s like to work with you. I compiled a list of 18 blog post ideas as a jumping off point. Go ahead, make up your own, add to the list, keep it handy
Blog Post Ideas
- Make a video post
Did you know that Youtube is the second most popular search engine on the planet? It is. Think about what you could make a video about that relates to your content.
- Create a review
Whether you’re reviewing a book, or a product or service, put it on the blog. Make it relevant to your clients, or customers.
Got a client who adores you? Ask them to write your a testimonial. Better yet, ask them if you can write it, submit it to them for approval and include it in a post about how you helped them create success for themselves.
What’s on point in your clients’ industries right now? Or in your industry and how it will help them? Let your expertise shine through in your writing.
What’s a question that everyone seems to be asking you, recently. Or even, what question should they be asking you and maybe don’t know to ask – Answer that question in the form of a post.
- Community Work
Do you, or your company or organization give back to the community? Talk about it. Take pictures of an event you’re sponsoring or supporting and give it some publicity.
We all make them. There’s nothing nicer than knowing that someone that you look up to has made a gaffe or two (or hundreds in my case!) Talk about it. It makes you very relatable and more approachable
Is there someone that you just love? Their ideas and approaches are something you aspire to? Is that person relatable to your readers? Go ahead and wax rhapsodic about them. Link to them and shoot them a PM that you’ve written about them. Most people love to share what people have written about them.
- Feel Good Post
Did you see something inspiring? Read something uplifting? Share it. We all hear bad news all day long, share some good news.
Share what you love! A great book that inspired you, a website that you use frequently, an app you couldn’t live without? Share it! Again, let them know you’ve shared their tool
- Ongoing Features
There are weekly blog hops, roundups, etc. all over the place. Create your own or join an existing group. Even solo, flavor of the month, word of the year, quote of the week. Consider featuring a people oriented feature. Client of the month, perhaps.
Thinking about making some changes? Looking for some advice? Put it to your readers. Way back when (1998), I was pregnant with my second child. I had a “Name My Baby” contest and it was a lot of fun. I made a lot of online friends, and the name I decided upon was submitted by one of the readers (Haley was the name). Get creative, ask real businessy type questions, or have some fun.
- Write an exposé
Tell a secret of your industry. Make it juicy. We love secrets! (Don’t go too far and subject yourself to libel though, ok?)
- Tell ‘your’ story
How did you get here? Why do you do what you do? I know I’m always interested in the what, why, when, and how. Be real and relatable and don’t take yourself too seriously.
- Tell us your philosophy
Why do you do business the way that you do? What do you hope your customers/clients will get out working with you? Be specific. Tell us how you create that.
- What’s everyone else doing?
Always read other people’s sites. Competitors, parallel industries, even unrelated sites that happen to catch your eye. You can get ideas from everywhere! I’m a fan of going to photographers’ websites. I get a ton of inspiration from what they post.
- Make it a Series
Got a topic that you can break down into bits? Go ahead and do that. Create a series of posts that you can release on a weekly (or whatever time frame works for you) basis, and always include a link to sign up for notification when the next article in the series is posted as well as a nice, juicy teaser to get us salivating for your next brilliant post.
- What’s Next?
What do you have in the works? A move? A new product? Tell us what’s next on the horizon for you and your business, product, or service.
